Quick and Simple Public Domain Product Ideas For Thanksgiving!

October 31, 2008 by Logan · Leave a Comment

Pirates of the Public Domain Issue #4 Is Hot Off The Presses!

Dear Reader,

Welcome aboard the fourth issue of “Pirates of the Public Domain Magazine”, the only digital magazine exploring ingeniously creative and outrageously lucrative ways to profit from the public domain! This magazine is dedicated to exploring unique and little known ways to repackage and republish public domain material for fun and profit.

In this fourth issue, we will be discussing unique product ideas based around a Thanksgiving holiday theme (or as we call it around my house, “Turkey Day”). The holidays are always a great time for product sales and you’ll find that with a little creativity and imagination creating unique Thanksgiving themed products is a snap when you can pull all of the material that you need from the public domain.

Thanksgiving is a time of food, family, friends, and giving thanks for all of the blessings that we have received over the past year and you can easily create special products that reflect these feelings of warmth, joy, and nostalgia by borrowing material from the past.

Hundreds of thousands of public domain books, magazine articles, photographs, postcards, greeting cards and more have be produced that capture the magic of the holiday that is Thanksgiving – and you can use this material in the creation of your own new products that will serve to preserve and enhance the spirit of the special holiday season.

Traditionally, Thanksgiving is celebrated in the United States and Canada, but no matter where on the globe you live you should find something in this month’s issue that will spark new ideas for products that you can create using copyright-free public domain material.

Holiday inspired products in general not only sell well but are also extremely fun to create! There is so much holiday related material out there to choose from in the public domain that your choices are almost endless and you should have no problem coming up with the raw material to create some really great, unique holiday themed products.

For instance, there are millions of U.S. published magazines in the public domain. Many of these magazines produced content that was family-oriented, kid friendly, and focused on the simpler things in life like good food, good times, and just the little things that help us live a more enjoyable life.

And you know what? Every November, most of these magazines produced a Thanksgiving inspired issue chock full of quality content that you can use – recipes of all sorts for turkey dishes, pumpkin pies, dressings, etc. – ideas for making the most of the holiday season, all kinds of great stuff!

In fact, the cover for this months issue of “Pirates of the Public Domain” magazine was borrowed from the November 22nd 1919 issue of a public domain magazine called “Leslie’s Weekly”.

Let the Thanksgiving holiday inspire you to create new family-oriented products and you’ll find the public domain to be a huge resource of great Thanksgiving related material!

From our families to yours, we wish you a warm and joyful Thanksgiving holiday!

Warmly,

&

The Amazon Kindle / Public Domain Connection Part Two - From A Publisher’s Prospective…

October 30, 2008 by Logan · 2 Comments

How To Leverage Amazon’s Digital Text Platform To Create Products For Kindle Users And Drive More Traffic Back To Your Websites, Grow Your Lists, and Create A New Source of Supplemental Income For Your Information Publishing Business…

From A Publisher’s Prospective…

Make Money with Amazon Kindle Public Domain booksAmazon has been remarkably tight-lipped about revealing just how many Kindles have been sold to date as well as what the sales figures are for Kindle books being purchased every month.

As far as the number of actual Kindle units sold, I’ve seen estimates all across the board but most sources seem to place the number of Kindle users somewhere between 50,000 to 100,000 and growing.

As far as sales figures for Kindle books, no one but Amazon knows for sure but Jeff Bezos, founder and chief executive of Amazon, commented at this year’s BookExpo America annual trade show that Kindle ebook downloads already account for 6% of Amazon’s unit sales of “books that are available in both paper and electronic formats”. (Source: New York Times, June 2, 2008, “Electronic Device Stirs Unease at Book Fair”)

You can bet that 6% of anything at Amazon is a significant amount but until Amazon decides to release the actual sales figures for the Kindle units and Kindle ebooks sold any estimate as to just how big this market actually is would be sheer speculation.

Now, here’s the important part and the whole point of this report – as an information publisher you can gain direct access to this market of Kindle users through a special platform that Amazon has put together called the Digital Text Platform.

The Digital Text Platform is a simple online publishing system designed to allow you to upload your digital content to Amazon for sale in the Kindle store.

It’s free to publish your digital content on Amazon’s Digital Text Platform and offer it for sale to Kindle users so there is no risk on your part. Why not experiment and see what happens? I’ve talked to a handful of Kindle content publishers now who were pleasantly surprised at how well some of their Kindle titles have been selling.

Here’s a few quick facts regarding publishing with the Digital Text Platform and selling in Amazon’s Kindle store…

  • At present only U.S. based publishers can sell digital products to Kindle users. Surely, this will change soon as Amazon expands it’s Kindle user base so you’re best off learning about this program now so you’ll be ahead of the curve when it does.
    l
  • Utilizing the Digital Text Platform requires no special skills whatsoever. If you can copy and paste stuff that’s pretty much the only skill you need.
    l
  • You specify the list price of your titles which can be anywhere from $0.99 to $200.00 USD.
    l
  • As outlined in the DTP’s Terms and Conditions you receive a set percentage of your list price when your product sells. At the moment that set percentage is 35%. I know this doesn’t sound like much but a little later we’ll discuss why this isn’t such a bad thing if you are leveraging this service correctly.
    l
  • You can upload documents in the following formats: HTML, plain text (.txt), Microsoft Word (.doc), and Adobe Reader (.pdf). When you upload your documents, the Digital Text Platform converts them into Kindle format automatically – Amazon’s DTP support team recommends uploading in HTML format for the best conversion results.
    l
  • Yes, you can include images in your documents. The Kindle handles images extremely well as long as you follow the image guidelines that the Amazon DTP support team suggests. See online help for more info.
    l
  • It probably goes without saying that you can only publish content for which you own the electronic publishing rights. Public Domain and Private Label Rights products are perfect for this as well as your own original content.
    l
  • You get paid automatically as long as your account has a balance of $10.00 or more “approximately sixty days following the end of the calendar month during which applicable sales of your content occur”. Seem like a long time to wait for your money? I agree but shortly, we will discuss some strategies for using this thing that will probably make it to where you don’t even care if you get paid at all!
    l
  • Funds will be distributed to you by Electronic Funds Transfer to a U.S. bank account. Again with that U.S. bank account thing – hang in there, my understanding is that Amazon is looking at their options for opening this program up to the rest of the world.
    l
  • Once “published”, your content will appear for sale in the Kindle store approximately 24-72 hours later but I’ve had reports of it taking much less time than that.
    l
  • An ISBN (International Standard Book Number) is not required to publish content with Digital Text Platform

So What Makes The Kindle Store A Worthwhile Place To Market My Digital Products?

4 reasons why Kindle users are a really good group of people to sell information to…

  1. Already a proven buying market - Kindles are pricey at $359.00 so these people that are buying these things have disposable income. They buy these and then of course they’re trolling the Kindle store constantly for new books to purchase.
    l
  2. Already a market that’s completely comfortable and enthusiastic about digital products - they are already very familiar and comfortable with the concept of “ebooks” and they are comfortable reading things on a digital screen.
    l
  3. They are comfortable with technology – Kindle users aren’t afraid of technology or they wouldn’t be such avid fans of these things in the first place.
    l
  4. They aren’t afraid to spend money online – this is proven over and over again just by the fact that every product for the Kindle is purchased online.

All four of these factors make Kindle users ideal candidates for selling digital products to especially when using Kindle products as bait to get traffic back to your higher profit websites and products. We’ll cover that subject soon in Part 3 of this series.

Consider this - there’s over 85 million books in the public domain. You could very easily use these books to create thousands of books for your Kindle book store. The opportunity is huge so be sure to check out the next part of this series if you’d like to learn more about how to sell public domain books on Amazon for profit.

7 Great Ideas For Your Next Newsletter Article

October 28, 2008 by Debra · Leave a Comment

I’m always ready to learn from the masters… the “real” masters. Not some over hyped - self inflated “guru” type, but the ones that have been doing their thing for a very long time.

I learned to write articles, blog posts and newsletter articles from none other than the “master” himself Jimmy D. Brown. If you haven’t heard of Jimmy then you have been living under a rock… he is one of the easiest to read “writers” in the internet marketing arena.

Not only is his writing easy to read, but he is so easy to learn from. He may sound like a good old boy from Arkansas… but he is one smart guy. Don’t let his easy going, southern accented style fool you. He has allowed me to once again add his guest post right on this very page!

By Jimmy D. Brown

Writing a newsletter is one of the best business-building activities you’ll ever invest time in on the Internet. They can be used in dozens of different ways to generate web site traffic, build lists, brand your name, earn affiliate commissions and produce sales of your products and services.

They are, unquestionably, a vital part of any successful Internet marketing campaign.

Yet there still remains a lingering question -

WHAT should I write about in my newsletter?

I want to share with you some brainstorming ideas that will allow you to easily come up with a couple dozen (or more) hot ideas for your upcoming newsletters. I’m going to briefly share seven (7) fill-in-the-blank article starters along with a brief explanation to help you get started writing attention-grabbing content.

When you’re ready to write your next newsletter, consider one of these not-yet-overused formulas…

1. What To Do When [Enter Problem Here]. The idea with this article is to offer a solution to an existing problem by matter-of-factly addressing the issue being discussed in the article. “What To Do When You Need To Lose That Last 5 Pounds” points out a problem many dieters face and hints that the article will reveal a method for overcoming this barrier. This article’s pointed style makes it a sure read.

2. Can [Enter Solution Here] Help [Enter Problem Here]? Similar to number one above, this article poses a question while emphasizing both the problem and potential solution. What really works here is to ask a “curiosity-building” question by providing a solution that doesn’t seem to fit with the problem. For example: If you’re trying to re-grow hair on your balding head, could you resist reading, “Can Cheerios Help Thicken Your Hair?” I don’t think so.

3. Should You [Enter Activity Here]? (Take This Quiz). People love quizzes. They especially love to see how they measure up in some area that they are particularly interested in. That combination makes this another newsletter that gets a lot of views. “Should You Quit Your Job And Start An Internet Business? Take This Quiz!” is going to attract every dissatisfied, looking-for-greener-pastures, internet marketing wannabe on the block.

4. 7 “Must Ask Questions” for [Enter Activity Here]. This is a perfect article for the entry-level beginner in any particular field. “7 ‘Must-Ask’ Questions for First-Time Homeschoolers’ When Choosing Curriculum” is just about a guaranteed read for all new homeschooling moms and dads who don’t want to blow it for their kids. (Note: The “number” of must-ask questions can be whatever you choose.)

5. 3 [Enter Topical Adjective Here] Lessons from [Enter Pop Culture Reference]. By using references to popular culture events, characters, television shows, news stories and trends, you’ll be able to get some cheap mileage from existing “hot buttons” of the general public. I recently wrote an article entitled, “3 Word-Of-Mouth Marketing Lessons From the Academy Awards” that garnered a lot of interest. Guess when I released it? Yep, a week before the big awards show.

6. Mastering [Enter Topic Here]: How to [Enter Tutorial Statement Here] Part 1. This is a superb article idea for a series of related tutorials. The word “master” is a bit overused at times in marketing circles, but it means to “become an expert” at something or to “achieve dominance” over something. Who wouldn’t want to “master” their activity of interest? That’s why “Mastering Weight Loss: How To Shed 12-15 Pounds in 30 Days, Part 1″ and other articles in its mold make for much-read content.

7. What Kind of [Enter Desirable Object Here] Is Best For YOU? We all want what’s “best” for us, don’t we? “What Kind Of Internet Business Is Best For You?” indicates there is something revealed in the article that will allow me to determine which of the options available to me is best suited for me. This is a really solid article to point others towards additional resources (such as special reports, mini-courses, etc.) where they can get specific information about which of the “options” mentioned in the article is most interesting and compatible with them.

So, there you have some great ideas to get you started on your next newsletter article.

You know you’re going to write newsletters, so would you like to get a LOT of completely free traffic with them? Check out by clicking here “How To Get Free Traffic With Newsletter Articles” . You’ll learn a powerful (but easy) way to get a lot of visitors to your website by using your newsletter articles in a special way … all at no cost to you.

The Amazon Kindle / Public Domain Connection Part One - What The Heck Is A “Kindle”?

October 28, 2008 by Logan · Leave a Comment

How To Leverage Amazon’s Digital Text Platform To Create Products For Kindle Users And Drive More Traffic Back To Your Websites, Grow Your Lists, and Create A New Source of Supplemental Income For Your Information Publishing Business…

“What the heck is a “Kindle”?

using amazon kindle for profitHave you ever heard of the “Kindle”?

The Kindle is Amazon’s “revolutionary new wireless reading device” that lets you read what you want, anywhere, anytime. At it’s core, it’s a really cool electronic device that let’s you read ebooks without having to sit in front of your computer screen straining your eyes. With expandable storage capacity, the Kindle will let you instantly download, store, and read hundreds of ebooks.

It’s essentially an electronic book in itself!

One of the most impressive features of this device is it’s display – it’s uses “electronic paper” technology that displays digital books on a sharp, hi-res screen simulating real paper. It’s very easy on the eyes unlike many of the ebook reading devices have come before it.

It’s extremely light weight (10.3 ounces) making it much lighter (and thinner) than the average paperback book. This thing is amazing – based on previous unimpressive attempts I have seen by other companies over the past few years I really had never had an interest in a device like this…until now!

The Kindle is definitely on my Christmas List this year!

You can download tons of books to this thing and throw it in your backpack, suitcase, or purse and take it with you anywhere.

You can read more about the Kindle and watch a few videos explaining more about the amazing capabilities of this thing at the following link…

The selection of titles in the Kindle store continues to grow daily as new digital books, magazines, newspapers, and even blogs are being added.

Why Do Digital Products Fail?

October 27, 2008 by Debra · 2 Comments

a day in the life of striatic ~ oops

I was contacted today by an new online marketer and he is struggling with creating his own products but knows that lot’s of digital products fail…

Here is the email:

I am a culinary/hospitality management graduate but am unable to work in my desired profession. I have a couple of books and articles that are in the public domain and would like to edit and update them for publication and yes they are cookbooks and recipes. Any suggestions, comments and even “snide” remarks (lol) would be greatly appreciated. Micah

Hi Micah…

Perhaps the biggest reason people fail when using Public Domain content to create new products is the don’t know “who” their market is.

In this case… the underlying problem seems to me (just my opinion) that the “tightly targeted market” has not been chosen. Public Domain cookbooks and copyright free magazine articles could be used in a huge variety of markets. With the skills if a culinary/hospitality management graduate it would seem that this would be a perfect target market.

Some of the ideas might be:

  • Cooking for hospitals
  • Cooking for events
  • Cooking for weddings
  • Cooking for restaurants

And… the fact that you could weave in lot’s of tips related to the education your already have is a huge bonus.

Of course, I understand you want to “update” these Public Domain publications so they will be useful for someone in todays current job market. I know how some of these old publications have been written with some of the oddest verbiage.

Logan and I have spent several hundred hours putting together our tutorials that include ideas to help you do just that… “fix the content so it reads well for todays consumer”. The Public Domain Treasure Hunter is a kit that includes pages and pages of ideas that share what other internet marketers have used to publish hot selling products. These are products that don’t have anything to do with internet marketing… their is one that is selling a book for artists just as an example.

I think this kit would be perfect for you to use to “update” your Public Domain information… plus it will teach you where to easily find other copyright free information to add to your product mix. Using all this freely available content just saves your time! This is time you can spend learning how to “market” your new products.

One of the books included in this kit shows you how to research online for copyright free content at libraries. The cool thing about using material from the library is that it doesn’t cost you a thing to “borrow” the book and scan it at home. I’ve done this several times. I’ve researched online all the libraries and had content that looked interesting “sent” to my local library for me to “borrow”. It’s a huge time and money saver.

I hope I’ve helped you in some small way to get your new business off the ground. Good luck and let us know if we can help you in any other way…

How To Find Online Public Domain Magazines

October 24, 2008 by Debra · 3 Comments

Lot’s of chatter going on these days about Public Domain Magazines and how to use them for creating great original articles.

But… I’m getting a ton of questions about how to find online Public Domain Magazines.

This question is divided into two different mind sets… really.

  1. The researcher wants to find already scanned magazines online.
  2. The researcher wants to know where to find magazines to purchase online… and then scan these public domain magazines themselves.

Okay… I’ll try to hit both these questions “spot on”.

Find Online Scanned (ready to use) Public Domain Magazines

Although many places exist online that have scanned and published copyright - free magazines… one of my favorites is archive.org. Yes you can easily find magazines on this internet archive. Of course so can anyone else… but that’s a discussion for later.

I just entered “magazine” and chose Texts for my search:

Here are just some of the results:

Pretty cool huh? And their are hundreds of articles in these magazines just waiting for you to use anyway you like!

How To Search For Public Domain Magazines Online From Sellers

This is where the rubber meets the road… You will have the best results from using magazine articles that are not available as online scanned documents. Yes, it takes a bit more work… but the rewards are huge!

Let’s try looking on eBay for some great copyright - free magazines. I’m going to search for “magazine hobby” right from the front page:

Of course you have to know a bit about copyright dates etc. I’m not going to delve to deep into that subject. But you can learn all about Public Domain research here: Copyright Laws

I’ll just bet you can’t wait to see the results of my search on eBay????

Now this is what I call a potential Gold Mine! Are all these magazines - Public Domain magazines? I don’t know… you would have to do some research. But just check out the prices!

With a bit of legwork… you could have an entire website filled with really good, quality articles directed right at your target market! And you could also put all those articles into a very highly targeted digital product.

The choice is yours… but I personally find that finding and holding these magazines in my hot little hands an exciting opportunity just waiting to happen, (can you say Profit).

It’s about as close to the “easy button” as you can get when you are looking for ways to create an online business… Now!

So… what are you waiting for? I’ve just showed you exactly How To Find Online Public Domain Magazines. Go find your treasure now.

5 Steps To Increase Your Blogging Income

October 23, 2008 by Debra · 2 Comments

Increase Your Income With Blogging
I started blogging several years ago… actually I resisted the whole blog idea for way to long. I thought that it was just a personal diary and not useful for my marketing ideas.

I was wrong. Actually I was Very Wrong. I would rather set up a blog for every new marketing idea I have than set up an HTML based website… Ever again.

This 5 step process is and easy way to increase your blogging income.

If you are looking for a way to start making money on the internet, and you have a budget that is very small or zero, blogging is a great way to get started.

Blogging has become very popular lately. For one thing, it’s free. For another, you don’t need to have any technical skills what so ever to get started. If you can read and write, you can blog.

So what is a blog? A blog is a simple web page that anyone can set up in minutes. People use them as journals, diaries, and sales pages, like you will learn to do here.

But, How Do I Make An Income Blogging?

You may be wondering how you can make money with a free blog. The answer is by adding Google Adsense, and promoting affiliate products.

You will not make money overnight with this system, but over 2 to 3 months, you can expect to start making some decent money. Remember, the cost for all this is absolutely nothing or very, very little.

You can use “Blogger” for your first blogging experience. Blogger is owned by Google, which is one reason I have used it.

It’s the easiest way to get started and they walk you through the process. You could have your first blog up and running in 5 minutes! https://www.blogger.com/start

Blogs are crawled by the search engines regularly, so you can get indexed very quickly. This is a fact. Blogs just position the articles and other content in such a way that the search engines love to find them. You don’t need to know how it works… just that it does work.

I confess that I have now switched to Wordpress blogs. They offer more features and are far more powerful.

It takes a bit more time to create a Wordpress blog and of course you will have to pay for a domain name and hosting. But you “own” this blog… and you won’t ever take the chance of having your blog shut down for some unexplained reason.

Make sure you know the difference between http://wordpress.org/ and http://wordpress.com/

Wordpress.org is a free software application that you must load onto your own website. This means that you will have to pay for a domain name and website hosting.

Wordpress.com is a free blogging site - much like Blooger by Google. They will shut you down if you don’t follow the rules.

I always suggest that you plan on having your own blogs… where they reside on a server paid for by you.

That said… blogging on the “free to use” sites is the easiest, fasted and cheapest way to get started.

So…. Step One - Set up your blog. If you are using Blogger, this should take you about 5 minutes.

Ready… Go!

Step 2 - Increasing your blogging income will be available in a few short days… can you wait?

How Do I Set Up Google Analytics For Tracking?

October 22, 2008 by Debra · 1 Comment

So begins the journey for better analyzing my websites, product sales and emails. I confess that I do love to look at charts and numbers… I just don’t really know what they mean or how to use the information.

It’s been suggested (strongly) that I learn this skill… and learn it now. Because I’m the only one who can make the choices about which direction my business should go… I need to learn the basics. Even if I outsource this task someday, it’s ultimately better for all concerned if I know what I’m talking about.

Wouldn’t you agree? I know… tracking has been compared to “eating your veggies” by Alice Seba. But she is one smart cookie and I trust that she knows what she is talking about… so learning to track is what she says I must do.

First on the list of great tracking tools is of course the big Kahuna… Google Analytics.

http://www.google.com/analytics/

I already have an account - but it will be so easy for you to get one if you don’t already.

I’m going to start with setting up everything for a site that is really neglected. This website is a demonstration website that I built entirely with public domain material. I used it in one of my coaching classes and since then… I really have not touched it. And it’s never had analytics installed.

The website for this testing and tracking experiment is

Wording For Wedding Invitations

Not a pretty site… but we will be working on the “looks” of this site as we go along.

After you sign in - on the analytics page you need to scroll all the way to the bottom and look for this:

You will be able to set up your website/blog for Google analytics here:

Now you enter your website domain name and click Finish:

Then you get a really scary looking page like this… (don’t be afraid - this is all the easy part)

At the top (in the pink area) is something that says “your tracking is not installed”. That’s what we will take care of next.

First you must “copy” all of the tracking code and then paste into the website or blog template. I’m tracking an entire blog. You would use this a bit differently for tracking a sales letter page.

The “theme editor” is what you are looking for… then you will click on the “footer” theme

The footer theme will have this the word /body at the bottom of all that code.

Just right click right above the word /body and paste in the code. Hit save. Your done!

Now when you check your status area you will see that your website isn’t tracking yet (that’s what the little pink box is):

Click on the blue link - Check Status:

That’s what I like to see! Anything that says Success!

Analytics will now tell me

  • How many visitors I’ve had in a month
  • Where the traffic is coming from
  • The Bounce Rate
  • The most viewed pages
  • Avg. time on the website
  • % of new visitors
  • And I can set it to collect other data like “sales conversions” which are called “Goals”. I’ll set this up and show you how in the next article!

Anyway… in a week or so I will give you all the details about what Google Analytics is tracking.

What to Test and Track For Better Traffic

How To Use Public Domain Magazines To Write For Blog

October 21, 2008 by Debra · Leave a Comment

Popular Public Domain magazines (and even some not so popular) usually had a nation-wide distribution. It is only among agricultural and trade journals that we find a distinctly sectional circulation.

Some of these publications served subscribers in only one state or section. The popular general magazine, monthly or weekly, aimed to attract readers of all classes in all parts of the United States.

How Magazines Get Material

Magazine articles come from

  • (1) regular members of the magazine’s staff,
  • (2) professional or amateur free-lance writers,
  • (3) specialists who wrote as an avocation, and
  • (4) readers of the periodical who sent in material based on their own experience.

The staff is recruited from writers and editors on newspapers and other magazines. Its members often perform various editorial duties in addition to writing articles. Publications edited in this way buy few if any articles from outsiders.

Magazines that do not follow the staff system depend largely or entirely on contributors. Every editor daily receives many manuscripts submitted by writers on their own initiative. From these he selects the material best adapted to his publication. Experienced writers often submit an outline of an article to a magazine editor for his approval before preparing the material for publication. Free-lance writers of reputation may be asked by magazine editors to prepare articles on given subjects.

In addition to material obtained in these ways, articles may be secured from specialists who write as an avocation.

An editor generally decides on the subject that he thinks will interest his readers at a given time
and then selects the authority best fitted to treat it in a popular way. To induce well-known writers to prepare such articles, an editor generally offers them more than they would normally pays.

A periodical may encourage its readers to send in short articles giving their own experiences and explaining how to do something in which they have become skilled. These personal experience articles have a reality and “human interest” that make them eminently readable. To obtain them magazines sometimes offer prizes for the best, reserving the privilege of publishing acceptable articles that do not win an award.

So… how do you benefit from the standards that magazines have always imposed?

Many… almost too many magazines to count… have now become available for anyone to use.

Public Domain is free to use anyway you like. All US government work is in the Public Domain… (like images from NASA and articles about baby food recalls for instance)

The only way you ever have to pay to use Public Domain stuff is if you went out and purchased a book or magazine that has lost it’s copyright.

It’s way… way better than PLR. PLR (Private Label Rights) articles are usually written by someone who doesn’t have a clue about the topic. And if they do… they don’t spend enough time researching to sound like an expert. Plus PLR articles are hardly ever re-written by the purchaser. They are just thrown up on websites and now 500 places on the internet have the same article.

That’s why using Public Domain magazines is so cool. There are billions if not more untapped resources of public domain. Most of it hasn’t seen the light of day in years. Of course most of the stuff written and published up to 1964 is out of copyright… so some very relevant info is just waiting for us to find and use.

I have lot’s of PLR on my computer. Most of it is garbage. But…almost anything that is published in a book or magazine is quality from the get go. So I’m starting with material that has already been through the editing process and has been proven to be content that someone will find valuable.

Why Are Magazines Now In The Public Domain?

The old laws were that you you had to apply for a copyright and then keep re-applying for the copyright protection at certain intervals. Of course no one thought of internet and all this connectivity we have now. So most (over 90%) of all books and magazines “feel” into the public domain.

Public Domain is not a “Thing”. Its really just the opposite of content (music, books, magazines etc.) that are copyright protected.

For instance: A musician that sells a new album today… his work is copyright protected. You can’t use his music in anyway without permission. But lots of music has lost it’s copyright protection… just because it’s old enough.

No one “owns” the public domain. That’s just what it is… Information of some kind that can be used by the public in anyway they want.

Public Domain Copyright-Free information is everywhere. It’s on Ebay for goodness sakes. We are just trying to help everyone learn what a fantastic resource it is!

I’ve got more information to share here: How to write for blog using public domain magazines.
