Web 2.0 Heroes: Interviews with 20 Web 2.0 Influencers
Do you know what Web 2.0 is? You may heard about Web 2.0, but you’re not quite sure how to crack the code?
Is it technology or is it a philosophy?
Web 2.0 is a vague theory. The Internet is not just a means of retrieving information and displaying content anymore. It’s much more community driven today.
The Internet is instantaneous and a place of networking - it’s like a continuous cocktail party. You need to be engaged in the conversation.
In the book - Interviews with 20 Web 2.0 Influencers, Jones writes, “Web 2.0 is a concept so fluid that even the experts in the book can’t agree on what it means. Some feel there is no definition even necessary. But most agree on one thing: Web 2.0 is a sweeping tide that’s changing the face of the Internet.”
Anyone who has an organization or business must take advantage of the great revolution for the Internet.
The author, Bradley L Jones, interviews 20 of the greatest influencers like:
• Rodrigo Madanes of Skype
• Tim Harris of Microsoft Corp.
• Biz Stone of Twitter
• Max Mancini of eBay
• Alan Meckler of Internet.com
• Gina Bianchini of Ning
• Richard MacManus of Read/Write Web & Web 2.0 Workgroup
• Michelle Turner of Adobe Corporation
• Joshua Schachter of Del.icio.us
• And more of the great heroes!
Still a little confused on what Web 2.0 is? You need to read Web 2.0 Heroes and start a whole new way of using the Internet to your benefit whether it’s for your business, organization, or personal use.

Let’s Make Some Quick Public Domain Cash Part 2
February 18, 2009 by Debra · Leave a Comment
Click here if you haven’t read Part 1 of Make Some Quick Public Domain Cash.
I came up with an idea! In Avril’s Book is a section called “start a clipping service”. This is interesting to me because I have a ton of magazines that I need to go through and pull out stuff for “me” to use for some projects and then get rid of the magazine. I think I can make more money by “cutting the mag” into articles or clipping bundles.
I’d like to go through “some” of her suggestions:
- Copy and package advertisements by subject or profession.
- It’s a good idea to create information packs about specific subjects and events and ask a standard price across the board. Avril’s daughter does this on eBay, selling what she calls ‘Doggy Bags’ which include pictures, articles, newspaper cuttings, puzzles, and lots of other printed bits and pieces about individual dog breeds. She only needs one copy of a particular item, in the public domain, which she can then copy to add to hundreds of doggy bags she might sell on eBay each year.
- You might specialize in certain subjects like: genealogical matters, astrology, fishing, gardening, recipes and cooking, and so on. Your service could be marketed on eBay or through magazines targeted at your specific audience.
- Copy and package advertisements by subject or profession. For example, she found dozens of advertisements from butchers, dressmakers, soap manufacturers, and more, in a pile of old Illustrated London News publications from the early 1900s.The entire bundle of twenty plus magazines cost £3 (about $6) and included ten or more full-page prints and posters per issue almost all of which sold at between £5 (about $10) and £30 (about $60).The more successful items she listed in categories described as ‘Hot’ in eBay’s regular Hot Items report. Those categories included specific condiments, such as Mustard; soap and perfumery advertisements went like a bomb under ‘Advertising: Chemists’, and a huge number of sporting prints, mainly horse-racing went like hot cakes under Collectibles: Horse Racing.
And here is one I know someone would love but I have no interest in:
- Here’s another great idea for out of copyright advertisements, especially smaller classified ads. They created our very best selling marketing book both on and off eBay, which they called HEADLINES THAT NEVER DIE, which was simply a collection of headlines we had taken from out-of-copyright, otherwise called ‘Public Domain’ publications. She simply typed them into a Microsoft Word document under categories, such as Travel, Children, Soaps, and so on. She also scanned some of the best advertisements of earlier times into the Word document to make the book visually appealing.
So I think that I would like to pick a pile of magazines from my stash and go through them… make a plan for using this stack of stuff to sell on ebay.
For the members only Public Domain Treasure Hunters site - I will actually DO the ebay sales and show results. etc.

Let’s Make Some Quick Public Domain Cash
I know how you would love to find the Public Domain Quick Cash Easy Button! And… you know how I loath the idea of anything related to an “Easy Button”… but I’ve seen so many requests for ideas to make a few quick bucks… I’m going to share a few Hot Public Domain Ideas!
One of them is from my good friends Avril Harper. It’s all about “Make Money Tearing Up Old Books and Magazines and Selling Them on eBay”
I admit that I purchased this guide a while ago (a long while ago) - and although it’s intriguing… I just never got around to it. But… the idea has stuck in the back of my “packed” brain… and it’s come bubbling to the top this week.
I’ve been purchasing Public Domain magazines and books for years. I use them for blog articles and product content. But what do I do with them when I’ve used the content? Store them. Everywhere!
If you follow my newsletter on one of my Home and Garden niche blogs… you would already know that this is the year I am committed to Organizing! Organizing and cleaning out the clutter is my goal. I’ve given myself an entire year and even hired someone to do a lot of the dirty work for me.
It’s February 2009 already and a month has gone by… not much of my goal has been accomplished. One of the huge hindrances right now is all this Public Domain clutter! Of course… I have lot’s of magazines and books that I am still going to use…
But… I have piles of Public Domain material that I have either:
- Used everything and the book is collecting dust
- or
- Publications of material for niches I thought I would go into… and now know that I won’t ever use.
So it’s time to dust them off and see what I’ve got. The good thing is… I’ve got tons of material related to specific niches. This seems to be the current idea for marketing on eBay. Becoming the Go-To person in a specific niche related topic.
For instance - I have a ton of books related to the Southwest USA… so I can start to resell those under an eBay account related to that market.
But… I also have several (I mean Several) magazines with articles, adds and photos related to the Southwest USA market. Rather than sell them as a package deal… I’m considering using Avril Harpers method of “Tearing Up Old Books and Magazines and Selling Them on eBay”.
I can see that it would be time consuming… but it also could be much more profitable than just selling a stack of old mags and books. If I’m going to be selling “stuff” on eBay again… I might as well make the most money for my time. Right?
Side Note: I did find a website with a unique twist to selling full magazines. They sell magazines based on birthday dates. Let’s say for instance… you wanted to get a unique gift for someone turning 50 this year. How about a magazine published during that year? Or even during the exact month for the birthday girl/boy?
This is pretty interesting because I have a website in the 50th Birthday Gift Idea Niche! Hmmm… I’m going to use the idea of magazines as a blog post and lead them to my eBay auctions for magazines that are 50 years old.
The really cool thing about Avril’s Report is that she shows you step by step how to list the items on eBay. What categories… what kind of template to use… and she shows shows these steps with an actual book she has cut apart and is selling in “pieces”.
Here is what Avril has to say about making Cash Tearing Up Old Public Domain Magazines
Vintage books and magazines were packed with prints and advertisements and other paper items which are not only interesting, but very collectable, and profitable, too. So many things derived from these old publications are hot sellers on eBay including: prints, advertisements, knitting and other craftwork patterns, recipes, how to articles, historical articles, music scores, stories and other out of copyright material … etc., etc, etc.
Let me introduce you to just a few of these easy to find items.
Prints
Old prints are valuable collectors’ pieces and there’s a good income to be made simply from packaging prints neatly and categorizing them according to theme, eBay’s best sellers being: animals, sports (especially golf and horse racing), royalty, music hall artists, topographical (named locations) and children.
Advertisements
Advertisements were often hugely ornate, colored or black and white, photographic or artist-drawn. Whatever shape they take, framed and unframed, mounted and unmounted advertisements are very popular on eBay where only recently an advertisement placed by a slave trader in The Memphis Daily Avalanche in 1859 fetched $200.
Clippings
‘Clippings’, sometimes called ‘Cuttings’ as both names suggest, are simply items cut from books and other printed publications. They can be large or small, or even comprise entire sections of a book linked to a specific theme. They can fetch high prices on eBay as did a 1909 article about the magician Houdini that went for $200 in May 2005 and clippings of Rudolph Valentino fetched $305 at around the same time.
Gifts and Advertising Novelties from Early Publications
Early publications often contained useful free gifts for readers, some of which are profitable collectors’ items today. The most common free gifts were advertising inserts and sometimes advertising blotters, rulers, children’s painting books and maps.
Maps are particularly prolific in older books and are amongst eBay’s highest priced items, such as the 1873 Beers Atlas of Maps of Long Island New York which recently fetch over $2,000 and a Mitchell’s Map of Missouri and Arkansas found folded inside a tatty old book from 1937 that reached $1702.
Posters
Some early publications, larger ones, had double center page spreads that make great posters and prints. They can fetch bids of $20 and more. As for all publications, learn to specialize, and look for special interest magazines, targeting a specific audience, say dog lovers, train enthusiasts, classic cars, and so on. This way you gain experience about specific subjects and the person to buy from on eBay.
Fancy Dress
Another very easy project where all you have to do is look for copyright-free patterns and designs which you can combine into books or sell individually. They are all great sellers on eBay especially for traditional fancy dress anniversaries such as Halloween.
Cartoons
The secret here is to look for copyright-free cartoons which you can copy and mount or frame as they are or revamp to suit today’s market. As for other copyright-free material, although there is no law against lifting and using cartoons, it is arguably immoral and unethical to claim the work as your own.
Cater for Lovers …. Of Anything and Everything!
Actually, that title is a little misleading because this project covers virtually every interest for which there is a large, better still, indeterminate audience. Books and such compiled here can be sold in printed, CD or downloadable fashion on eBay.
This is my particular favorite and, arguably, the easiest to profit from. All you do here is clip, collect and collate as many snippets as you can relating to one particular subject or theme. Cats, dogs, golf, writing, children, Amish recipes, fortune-telling, witchcraft, and more, are useful ideas for books that are simply compilations of everything you find on the topic.
Here are a few ideas to get you started:
- 1001 Great Golfing Jokes
- Everything You Didn’t Know About Cats
- Psychic Cat and Dog Stories
- 1001 Great Dating Tips
- 500 Amish Recipes
- Candles and Witchcraft: Ten True Stories to Brighten Your Life
- 50 Ways to Reduce Everyday Stress
- 101 Ways to Market Your Writing
- Early Veterinary Practices
- Let Grandma’s Kitchen Make Money For You
There’s money to be made from compiling early recipes in book or report form for selling in print, CD or via email attachment from eBay listings. Recipes don’t need to be popular today; you might research and write up on some of the far less appetizing dishes our ancestors might have ‘enjoyed’ centuries before.
Knitting Patterns
Knitting and other craftwork patterns are hugely popular sellers on eBay, especially unusual and niche market types, such as dolls’ clothing, war-time economy designs, clothes for animals, and so on. Again, look for out-of-copyright items and other patterns that never had legal copyright.
Many old publications included free patterns as loose items or pull-out publications which need no additional work on them to sell. However, you are not always allowed to copy these items so where you have a good seller, work hard to obtain as many copies of the parent copy publication as possible.
So many books and magazines available, so many ways to make money from them, so what are you waiting for!
Avril Harper is a triple PowerSeller and author of Mags to Riches (http://www.magstoriches.com) http://www.magstoriches.com.
**************
Now… I’ve got to plow through Avril’s report again and make some decisions on just how I will sell old magazines on eBay. I’ll keep you updated on my progress.

How To Make Marketing Simple
February 7, 2009 by Debra · Leave a Comment
I remember the feeling of “overwhelm” when I first started to learn about internet marketing. There were times I felt so “dumb” it was gut wrenching. I couldn’t learn fast enough and it wall ALL so confusing.
I kept reading about how simple it is to make money online… but for the life of me - I could not find the simple parts. Not one thing seemed simple or easy.
I’ve always been impressed with those who can take overwhelming tasks and handle them with ease and never break a sweat. It just never seemed to work that way for me, until I discovered the secret for tackling those daunting tasks.
The secret is simple: make things simple!
It’s like a cooking recipe.
- Find a recipe you want to try,
- Make a shopping list of ingredients,
- Go shopping and buy all the ingredients,
- Follow the step-by-step instructions.
- You end up with a perfect meal.
But… if you waiver - The results are going to be horrible...
- Don’t bother with a recipe (heck, you know what you want it to taste like… right)?
- Use what you have in the pantry… substituting with ingredients that don’t make sense.
- I don’t have time to shop… I’ll just wing it.
- Forget instructions… this should be easy. Pour every thing in at one time and in an hour we’ll eat!
- You cry over the brick that was supposed to be meatloaf.
Okay… so we all know we should follow instructions. But where do you find the instructions? And… which of the millions of instructions should I choose to follow?
Oh - and did you notice - recipes are broken down into a simple step-by-step system? You would never think about mixing the nuts into the eggs when following a brownie recipe… The system has an order to follow.
Now… take the recipe example and apply it in your business. Just about every major undertaking has things that can be simplified into a handful of “core” components. That makes them manageable.
Manageable means you will be more productive simply because you can work on something that seems accomplishable. And when productivity goes up, desired results come.
One of my coaching students wanted a simple- easy- step by step plan that she could follow. I can’t really give that… No on can. Why? Because every business is different. And every new business owner is different.
But… What if she had asked me to list the top three things she must concentrate on? Which one of these should be on the list?
- Is it product development?
- Learning to set up a blog?
- Keyword research?
- Social marketing?
- Reading and answering ever important email?
- Setting up a list?
- Just to name a few….
She wants things simplified. She knows the secret to success is getting things down into manageable
chunks.
So, what should you concentrate on when starting to build an internet business?
There are three things - and three things only - that you need to concentrate on with your business…
1. Offer Development.
You cannot make money online unless you have an OFFER. It’s that simple.
Unless there is some way for income to be generated, you can’t get paid. End of discussion.
Every business is founded upon a revenue-generating offer. Now, this can either be your own offer (small reports, ebooks, membership sites, coaching/consulting, advertising, etc.) or something you promote as an affiliate and earn revenue for referred sales.
2. List Marketing.
The fortune is in the list. You’ve heard it an untold number of times in the past, right? Building and profiting from opt-in lists should be a major priority on your schedule. You need to devote yourself to attracting new subscribers and then getting all of your subscribers to spend money with you … by purchasing your
OFFERS (see #1 above).
3. Traffic.
The third and final thing you need to concentrate on is “traffic”. This includes both traffic GENERATION (getting visitors to a site) and traffic CONVERSION (getting that traffic to buy). This includes things like:
- starting an affiliate program,
- buying PPC ads,
- participating in joint ventures,
- utilizing viral marketing tools,
- raising your visitor value,
- tweaking your sales pages,
- etc.
With each of these categories, you have a variety of options to choose from in directing your attention. It would be foolish for me to say “grow your affiliate program” as your number # traffic activity since I don’t know if you even have your own product to sell. That’s why I don’t recommend specific activities, but rather three key categories of business-building.
With each of these categories, find 2-3 activities to work on each week and you should see results in a short amount of time.
I admit I don’t always follow a regimented schedule… I should, but I like to mix things up from time to time.
I do have certain things that I do like clockwork. Every day I have a list of things
- That MUST get done
- That Need to get done - but could be put off a day or two
- That Should get done - I often look for ways to get my Virtual Assistants to do these.
- That probably isn’t something that ever needs to get done… and if it gets pushed along to the bottom of the to-do list often enough - I know it’s not important. (Trash it!)
- I’d like to do or try - These things float along and get plugged in eventually.
Now this doesn’t look very organized - but after several years and some training from some very good coaches… I’ve learned what works for me.
I suggest that you take that entire to-do list and turn it over once a day. For 2 or 3 hours a day - ignore the list.
Let’s just say you worked on an Offer for 2 or 3 solid hours one day… List Marketing on the next day and Traffic Generation on the next. During those 2 or 3 hours you don’t have to “complete a task”. You just have to commit to working on just that one task.
You will be surprised at how much you can get accomplished, but just chipping away at each of these three things.
In a nutshell -
- Find an offer to promote. (Either your own product or someone else’s)
- Setup a list to promote the offer.
- Drive traffic to the list opt-in page.
K.I.S.S. Remember to Keep It Simple Silly.

Combine PLR and PD For Unique Content
January 28, 2009 by Debra · Leave a Comment
You know I love all things related to the Public Domain… but I have another passion. I really… I mean “no question about it” have always loved to use Private Label Rights eBooks and Articles !
But you must also know this… I rarely ever use PLR in it’s original state. Meaning… I change things up. Just like using Public Domain content in your writing… you should use it as a jumping off point!
I have several favorite companies that I purchase PLR articles and ebooks from.. but this is one of my favorites. They have been doing this so long and are so popular - they must be doing something right.
This marketing and publishing supplier membership is just packed with Private Label Rights article content on just about any niche subject you can think of…
plus… you can request articles to be written for your specific niche market.
It’s called InfoGoRound (IGR) - and it’s huge!
For instance… I used some PLR articles (with a twist) in a recent newsletter for one of my non-marketing niches. I changed the articles quickly by inserting some targeted keyword-rich Public Domain content.
By having all the Copyright Free content saved into folders on my computer… segmented by niche topics… I can quickly and easily find just what I need to “change up” any PLR content that comes my way.
InfoGoRound has been growing their treasure chest of unique and well written private label rights content covering some of the most popular topics in over 40 categories…
… and they don’t just have articles and ebooks - They have entire packages ready for you to use:
- Niche Specific Private Label Rights eBooks
- A Ready To Use Sales Letter
- Additional Website Graphics
- And - At least 50 Private Label Rights Niche Articles for website or newsletter content
The “articles section is really big and it keeps growing.
I use re-written (by adding in Public Domain content) PLR articles and ebooks in blog posts, newsletters, subscriber emails and small reports. Heck… I’ve even built entire products by using just these 2 key components.
With all the PLR that’s available in the InfoGoRound membership area… and all of the great Public Domain material I have found and saved up… I can get lot’s of work (I hate that word) done if a very short amount of time.
So you can see why I get so excited when I start talking about InfoGoRound…
You can check them out here: InfoGoRound.com

Create Small Reports With Public Domain
January 15, 2009 by Debra · Leave a Comment

Have you ever purchased a course that was so good… you have read it over and over again? I just finished this course again. I have had this Small Reports course for over 2 years and every time I go through it I learn (or remember) something new!
This is not some old rehashed tutorial… really. Yes… it’s been around for a while, but the system has worked and is still working for me - everyday.
What is this Small Reports Fortune course?
A step-by-step manual for creating small reports and selling them for profit. This course includes everything you could possibly need to get your first small report written and selling on clickbank.com
The course comes as a
- 101-page manual in .PDF format,
- 7 downloadable .MP3 sessions,
- 4 exclusive bonuses in .PDF format
- and a set of video tutorials.
For this price, you’re getting a course in market research, a course in copywriting, a course in web creation, a course in marketing your product… I mean, it’s almost silly how thorough he is in this one product. It’s truly a comprehensive, step-by-step course.
The only thing that Jimmy doesn’t do is actually sit down and write the reports for you — but I do think that’s understandable since the price is so reasonable.
(And… it’s so easy to do it yourself with Copyright-Free Public Domain material)
If you order today, you can be taking orders for you first small report in less than 1 week from NOW.
Anyone wants to make money with infoproducts - This is the course for you. It really doesn’t matter if you’re going to write the entire report yourself… use public domain content… use PLR/reprint articles… hire a ghost writer… or a combination of all of these tactics.
It is just especially useful for those who want to create ebooks, but are intimidated by creating a large infoproduct.
This course will teach the steps you need to write short reports that people will want to read and make money doing it.
Small Reports Fortune is easy to understand and includes examples so that you understand exactly what to do and how. Not only are you shown how to write the reports, you are also given information on how to best design, price, and sell your small report. Finally, you’re given tips on how to use your small reports to build even more income.
The only thing that isn’t covered in depth is how to get traffic once you’ve gotten the report written and ready to sell. However, Jimmy does offer several other courses with training to get traffic, especially his www.SalesArmySecrets.com
This course made it easy for me to see the HUGE potential in writing small reports. Additionally, it gave me a system for creating a quality product and a roadmap to follow to get them to market.
When he released this course on creating small reports, I thought, “What in the world could he possibly have to say on the subject that hasn’t already been said?”
I thought that was a fair question. I have been a coaching student of his for years, but Jimmy has put together a nice course here that teaches how to create small reports…
The case studies he provides at his site attention-grabbers for sure -
- * Over eighteen-thousand dollars in monthly residuals.
- * Over thirty-thousand dollars in one day profit.
- * Over one million dollars in total profit.
All from writing short reports.
But, as impressive as all that is, what really got my attention - and my endorsement - was the fact that he shows anyone (even rank beginners!) how to start from scratch and actually make a profit in just 7 days.
That means, if right now you have no list, no web site, no ideas … nothing … you can still actually make money from this system in just 1 week.
No… I didn’t make money from this system in a week… or even a month. But I did start to see a significant increase in my profits within 3 months! Why did it take me so long? Well… I was pretty green at internet marketing a few years ago, and let myself get sidetracked.
If I had focused on just this one course… and nothing else… I would have been making larger profits much more quickly.
(Of course, if you have a list and website already, you can see results even quicker!)
Jimmy has even included as one of the bonuses, a 16-page report that offers a systematic checklist broken down into daily activities for you to complete.
Assignments appear in chronological order, completely cover the entire process of creating a small report from start to finish and refer to specific pages of the main manual and bonuses to provide complete, detailed instructions for completing each assignment.
I mean, it’s all broken down into easy-to-do steps!
And, best of all, he shows his exclusive never-before-revealed “Six Phases Of A Six Figure Small Report Business”. This alone was worth the cost of the course!
In order words, there’s a “small fortune” to be made with these “small reports”! :0)
But… before you go buying something you’re not really sure about - I have a FREE short report (see reports really do work) that guides you through the steps givin in the Small Reports Course.

ReBranded Public Domain Magazine
If you have an affiliate program, it is wise choice to make the options available to your affiliates as simple as possible.
One such option is brandable reports, ebooks, etc. You will find that the old way of branding via Word, is just too much with the age of PDFs. It is too much work for you and too much work you affiliates. That equals less money for everyone and your product may fail at making the sales you desire.
The bottom line when it comes to branding is that affiliates hate complexity - and many affiliates just give up on branding PDF files as soon as they see the complicated branding software. This of course undermines your whole promotion strategy, which relies on lots of affiliates branding your ebook with their affiliate links.
Now there’s an alternative inexpensive branding technology which offers a quick and easy, foolproof solution for branding your PDF files.
The PDF Brander Pro software uses a brand new method of PDF branding, which works by creating special “branding packages” for your ebooks.
It is so simple to use.
All your affiliates have to do is download your branding package, double-click on it and then fill in their details, one item at a time, following clear and simple instructions.
As soon as they have entered all the necessary details, the branding package generates and saves a complete, ready to use, branded PDF file onto their PC.
Branding a PDF file doesn’t get any easier than this!
