Old French Fairy Tales by Ségur, Sophie, comtesse de, and published in 1799-1874; with illustrations by Sterrett, Virginia Frances is available in the public domain and can be viewed at

http://www.archive.org/details/oldfrenchfairyta00sgrich

This wonderful book is magnificently illustrated with 8 beautiful and dramatic full page color and many black and white drawings by Virginia Frances Sterrett.

“Done when she was only 19 years of age, this was Sterrett’s first book, and she is often referred to as the ‘female Kay Nielsen’.”

The images are ethereal in nature and will appeal to both children and adults.

It is the images which first captured my attention when viewing this book in the archives.

They would make magnificent artwork and could be reproduced and sold as framed and unframed posters.

The images could also be used to create a calendar.

Motivated individuals could also find more of Virgina Frances Sterrett’s artwork and create compelling picture books, note cards, calendars and other products using her public domain artwork.

In addition to the images, the fairy tales are delightful. They include:
1. The Story of Blondine, Bonne-Biche, and Beau Minon.
2. Good Little Henry
3. The Princess Rosette
4. The Little Grey Mouse
5. Ourson

The complete collection is 279 pages in length and making each story long enough to be packaged individually as a single fairy tale. Some children enjoy collecting and packaging the fairy tales independently is a great way to appeal to this tendency. Depending on your audience’s age the stories can also be reformatted so there are fewer words on the page for the younger crowd who appreciates images and pictures with their story telling.

However for the older crowd who thrive on good storytelling and don’t require an abundance of images to tell the story, the book is already in perfect shape and would require little, if any, reformatting.

Old French Fairy Tales is a great collection of public domain story telling and images that provide an infinite variety of product and marketing options. You’re never too old for a good fairy tale and it’s refreshing to see such wonderful stories available in the public domain – not to mention the amazing artwork!

Much like the word “Budget,” it implies structure and rigid rules you must follow.

However, just like a budge is essential for public domain success, so too is a marketing strategy.

The good news is that a marketing strategy is not a rigid structure you must hold fast to but rather a plan which can be changed as your business evolves and you learn what your customers want and expect from you.

So what does a marketing strategy contain?

A marketing strategy is your all encompassing plan. Depending on your preferences you can outline a six month marketing strategy, an annual marketing strategy or for those who really look to the future a three or five year marketing strategy.

Marketing is anything and everything that relates to your public domain business. Your strategy will contain simple things like a business card however it can also contain:

Brochures, flyers, and print media.

Video and audio marketing

Podcasting

Advertising.

Autoresponders, newsletters, and email messages

Blogs

Forums

Social networking sites

Offline networking

Testimonials

Endorsements

Bonuses, affiliate promotions, joint venture partnerships and on and on.

With marketing encompassing so much, the question is, how do you create a strategy?

Step One: Build an opt-in list. An opt-in list is simply an organized list of contacts, customers, and people who have expressed an interest in your public domain business. You can build one by giving something away in exchange for an email address. Options include information, coupons, and actual products.

Step Two: Decide how your opt-in list would best be marketed. For example, would a PPC campaign reach the most targeted audience or would a direct mail campaign have better results?

Step Three: Decide how you want to market to your growing opt-in list. Decide what information would be valuable to your audience and give it to them. It all depends on your public domain products and niche.

Step Four: Determine your promotions for the year. Promotions can be anything from giveaways to discounts to perhaps a special offer from a joint venture partner. Space these promotions out and decide how they’re going to work with your other marketing tools and initiatives to create a strong and effective strategy.

Step Five: Create an action plan. What do you need to make each marketing tool successful?

Step Six: Create systems to track and test your marketing initiatives have a positive return on investment?

Step Seven: Create a schedule to review and possibly revise your marketing strategy. This can be monthly, quarterly or perhaps after every campaign launch. Create a schedule to look back over what you’ve accomplished and what marketing tools need to be reevaluated for their effectiveness.

Taking the time to create and maintain a marketing strategy will help ensure your public domain business has lasting and sustainable success.

Explore an idea that was inspired by Avril Harper’s awesome book, “21 Amazing Ways To Make Money FAST From The Public Domain”.

What she found was an idea that ultimately lead to another great idea - selling “themed” collections of public domain magazine content in the world’s largest online auction marketplace ~ eBay!

Public Domain Magazine Content + eBay? Ohh, yeah! Now that’s one project we can sink our teeth into! It’s a great idea but,…will it work?

Follow along with us and find out!

Just Get Rid Of It!

What do you say to yourself when the place you work - rest- eat - sleep and well live… get’s overrun with Stuff? If you are anything like me you reach a breaking point and say “Just Get Rid Of It”!

I’ve hit a point where it’s time to purge - not shuffle or re-file… but - Purge my space of unnecessary stuff.

I’ve always held a theory or solution for getting rid of stuff. Move households - and move often. You will rid yourself of all sorts of extra baggage and “stuff” every time you move.

Why? Because we don’t want to pack and unpack a bunch of junk. So we throw away - give away or sell everything that seems like “junk”. Oh… you might start out packing everything on the shelf… (shelf after shelf)… and then soon you start to get tired and wonder “why am I packing this “stuff”?

Apparently there comes a time in our lives when we stop moving into new homes. The home I live in right now is the one we plan on living in for at least 10 more years (perhaps the rest of our lives). And… we have lived in this house over 15 years already.

So I have been collecting and stuffing our home for a very long time and it’s become nearly impossible to figure out where to put anything new. And - like it or not… we all get new “stuff”.

Why am I sharing this story with you? Well… it does have to do with Public Domain. And eBay. And how I plan to “Get Rid Of Some Stuff”.

I Blame Avril Harper!

Yes… I blame her for this idea. Actually - it’s more of a project than and idea… (As if I needed another project), because it’s going to involve some thinking as well as labor.

Getting rid of stuff or junk (remember when that stuff or junk used to be really cool and neat?) requires labor. Lifting and toting and dusting and cleaning. Moving anything larger than a cup of coffee is labor in my book.

But… in this particular case… this is not just a labor intensive project - It will require some brain power as well.

The whole idea came about while I was reading Avril Harpers book:

“21 AMAZING WAYS TO MAKE MONEY FAST FROM THE PUBLIC DOMAIN“

In Avril’s Book is a section called “start a clipping service“. This is interesting to me because I have a ton of public domain magazines that I need to go through and pull out stuff for “me” to use for some projects and then get rid of the magazine. I think I can make more money by “cutting the magazine” into articles or clipping bundles.

I’d like to go through “some” of her suggestions:

Copy and package advertisements by subject or profession.
l

It’s a good idea to create information packs about specific subjects and events and ask a standard price across the board. Her daughter does this on eBay, selling what she calls ‘Doggy Bags’ which include pictures, articles, newspaper cuttings, puzzles, and lots of other printed bits and pieces about individual dog breeds. She only needs one copy of a particular item, in the public domain, which she can then copy to add to hundreds of doggy bags she might sell on eBay each year.
l

You might specialize in certain subjects like: genealogical matters, astrology, fishing, gardening, recipes and cooking, and so on. Your service could be marketed on eBay or through magazines targeted at your specific audience.
l

Copy and package advertisements by subject or profession. For example, she found dozens of advertisements from butchers, dressmakers, soap manufacturers, and more, in a pile of old Illustrated London News publications from the early 1900s. The entire bundle of twenty plus magazines cost £3 (about $6) and included ten or more full-page prints and posters per issue almost all of which sold at between £5 (about $10) and £30 (about $60). The more successful items she listed in categories described as ‘Hot’ in eBay’s regular Hot Items report. Those categories included specific condiments, such as Mustard; soap and perfumery advertisements went like a bomb under ‘Advertising: Chemists’, and a huge number of sporting prints, mainly horse-racing went like hot cakes under Collectibles: Horse Racing.

And here is one I know that someone will love but I have no interest in:

Here’s another great idea for out of copyright advertisements, especially smaller classified ads. She created one of her very best selling marketing book both on and off eBay, which she called HEADLINES THAT NEVER DIE, which was simply a collection of headlines she had taken from out-of-copyright, otherwise called ‘Public Domain’ publications. She simply typed them into a Microsoft Word document under categories, such as Travel, Children, Soaps, and so on. She also scanned some of the best advertisements of earlier times into the Word document to make the book visually appealing.

The Big Project:

I will pick a pile of magazines from my stash and go through them… make a plan for using this stack of stuff to sell on eBay. I also have a huge pile (piles) of books that need to be sold. Oh… and I have several bits of marketing manuals and DVD sets to sell as well.

The project would be so easy… if I just picked up a pile and listed them on eBay. Just the way I purchased them several years ago.

But… that’s not what the “plan” calls for. The idea here is to create actual products to sell over and over on eBay… not just one time sales.

Part 1 - What do I have that I’m ready to “Get Rid Of”? I need to be ruthless with this step. If I think too much about all the possibilities - I won’t get any of this “Stuff” out of my life.

Choose a pile of Public Domain magazines - at least 10 (15+ is best)
l

Go through the entire pile to get an idea of the contents. Make notes
l

Brainstorm an idea for a product that can be made from this stack
l

Quick check on eBay for viability and competition
l

If it passes criteria - move ahead with creating a product to sell on eBay.

Do you think of “trends” when you are trying to brainstorm new ideas for old public domain content? It’s often impossible for marketers to put the two together. New Trends and Old Public Domain Articles - they just don’t seem that they would be a good mix.

You probably have several ideas brewing in the back of your mind… ideas that have potential - but seem too “New” to be able to “mix” in with anything from the Public Domain.

Let’s discuss how to mix up those ideas and combine them with copyright-free material to create new products and new businesses.

Using Trends To Profit From Old Public Domain Content

Remember Dan Brown’s ‘The Da Vinci Code’? The book was an instant success, and was a best seller. Ever since it’s release, interest in the book, and especially the ideas and controversies it raises, have risen exponentially.

Today I checked the search count for “da vinci code” and found that 110,000 are still searching per month. That’s a relative number… as the accurate number is probably much higher. And… did you know that approx. 450,000 searches per month are done for “Leonardo da Vinci”?

Anyway…. “da vinci code” was a “Hot Trend” in 2005-06

How could you have profited from it? Simple; use the public domain to provide images and articles on the topics discussed in the book (the Priory of Sion, the ‘sacred feminine’, Leonardo Da Vinci and his paintings, to name a few) and use AdSense to raise income from the website itself.

What is a “Hot Trend” today?

Swine Flu

News about Chrysler

Almost anything related to President Obama

Cinco de Mayo (It’s almost May 5th)

The housing market

The job market

If you jump on the “hot trend” of today…

Swine Flu - You could be on a short lived but profitable money train.

Everything on the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Provention) is Public Domain:

http://www.cdc.gov/swineflu/

Many people don’t want to venture into stores to purchase masks, hand sanitizers and bulk food. There are recommendations for “what to do” form the CDC - but not where to get it. Be the conduit. Help everyone find the protection and supplies they feel they need.

Cinco de Mayo

Holidays are about food! Mexican Food Recipes.

Jobless and In Need Of Some Ideas

This book may not get you a job… but it was fun to read. An inspiration really… about people taking jobs of any kind to feed themselves.

From job to job around the world

FOREWORD

The pages that follow are an account of a three-
year trip I made around the world, starting from
San Francisco with only a five-dollar gold piece and
earning my way. My wanderings took me to
Hawaii, Japan, Korea, China, the Philippines, Cey-
lon, India, Egypt, Palestine, Turkey, Europe, Eng-
land, Norway, Spitzbergen, Sweden, and finally
across the Atlantic to America. I think the book
covers a new field in travel narrative in that it shows
that it is possible to work one's way around the world
and do so with a considerable degree of comfort.
In most instances I held good positions, met the rep-
resentative people of each country and traveled in
moderate style. I, of course, had numerous hard-
ships and adventures, which I relate.

The lesson here is to keep your eyes open for major search trends launched by movies, books or the news… that prompt a massive interest in history, religion, geography or even science - it is quite possible find such topics freely and heavily available in the public domain.

Most marketing guru’s will tell you to sell high ticket items as an affiliate and look for large commission percentages to boot!

I don’t dispute this advice. It’s good advice… if only we could all be successful selling those large ticket items on a regular basis.

You can make a “decent” income selling low priced items as an affiliate. Yes… you have to sell a boat load to make the mortgage payment every month - but it can be one part of your multiple streams of income.

If you have enough of those little streams of income - they can (and will eventually) add up to a very nice “large” river.

I was recently introduced to a new affiliate program. It looked like a nice little niche book market program to join.

The Krause Publishing Company just joined the “Google Affiliate Network”

The Krause company has this to say on the website:

Krause Publications was formed in 1952 when founder, Chester Krause, rolled out the first issue of the cornerstone Numismatic News publication, which today continues to have a strong presence in the coin-collecting hobby.

Twenty years later, an 800-page Standard Catalog of World Coins made it’s debut and the rest…is history. In the nearly 35 years since that massive catalog rolled off the press, our list has grown from just one title to more than 750 titles in print.

We pride ourselves in supplying collectors and hobbyists with the information and instruction they need to enjoy their hobby even more. There’s something for everyone from antique collectors to comic book collectors, old cars fans, hunters and shooters, sewers and quilts, coin collectors and more.

Krause Publications joined the F+W Publications, Inc. family in July 2002.

Why did I find this interesting?

One of the books they sell on the site:

Wool Rug Hooking

The idea I had was to build a website all about rug hooking using Public Domain Material.

This is one of many books about making rugs already digitized and available online:

http://www.archive.org/details/craftofhandmader00hickrich

Here is the point where you have to choose:

If you become an affiliate of Krause Publishing and market books from that website your customers will be paying full price for the book. Which is good… you get a higher commission on a higher priced book. Right?

This is a great looking website.

They sell quality products.

The site is easy to navigate… and easy to buy from.

But!

Would your customers be unhappy if they found this same book with a hefty discount on Amazon?

And….

Would your customers be unhappy if they could qualify for free shipping?

What do you think?

Is it worth a few pennies more to have unhappy customers?

Something to think about…

How would you find and use Public Domain informations about Babies and Children? Wouldn’t it be outdated?

Here are just some of the types of copyright free information I found waiting to be used.

Babies (… and kids of all ages) don’t come with directions... and everyone thinks they might be doing it wrong.

There have always been (and always will be) babies.

And homemade baby food.

And homemade baby clothes.

And homemade baby toys.

Can you find a small niche to fill about babies or raising children?

Giving Children Medicine

“Open wide … here comes the choo-choo.”

When it comes to giving children medicine, a little imagination never hurts.

But what’s more important is vigilance: giving the medicine at the right time at the right dose, avoiding interactions between drugs, watching out for tampering, and asking your child’s doctor or the pharmacist about any concerns you may have.

Whether it’s a prescription or over-the-counter (OTC) drug, dispensing medicine properly to children is important. Given incorrectly, drugs may be ineffective or harmful.

Read the Label

“The most important thing for parents is to know what the drug is, how to use it, and what reactions to look for,” says Paula Botstein, M.D., pediatrician and acting director of the Food and Drug Administration’s Office of Drug Evaluation III. She recommends that a parent should ask the doctor or pharmacist a number of questions before accepting any prescription:

What is the drug and what is it for?

Will there be a problem with other drugs my child is taking?

How often and for how long does my child need to take it?

What if my child misses a dose?

What side effects does it have and how soon will it start working?

Reading Nursery Rhymes

Hundreds of old children’s books are now “copyright free”!

Or… Maybe you have an eBay store filled with children’s frame-able art for sale:

Tips For Raising Children

We may raise our children differently than our parents and grandparents… but should we?

Most children can be, and many are, hopelessly warped and wasted by parents who are ignorant and silly enough to suppose that they know what a human being ought to be, and who stick at nothing in their determination to force their children into their molds.

Every child has a right to its own bent. It has a right to find its own way and go its own way, whether that way seems wise or foolish to others, exactly as an adult has. It has a right to privacy as to its own doings and its own affairs as much as if it were its own father.

In a family of ten, eight, six, or even four children, the rights of the younger ones to a great extent take care of themselves and of the rights of the elder ones too.

Two adult parents, in spite of a house to keep and an income to earn, can still interfere to a disastrous extent with the rights and liberties of one child. But by the time a fourth child has arrived, they are not only outnumbered two to one, but are getting tired of the thankless and mischievous job of bringing up their children in the way they think they should go.

The children may receive a good deal of individual attention from one another in the shape of outspoken reproach, ruthless ridicule, and violent resistance to their attempts at aggression.

Experienced parents, when children’s rights are preached to them, very naturally ask whether children are to be allowed to do what they like. The best reply is to ask whether adults are to be allowed to do what they like. The two cases are the same. The adult who is nasty is not allowed to do what he likes: neither should the child who likes to be nasty. There is no difference in principle between the rights of a child and those of an adult: the difference in their cases is one of circumstance.

A child is a restless, noisy little animal, with an insatiable appetite for knowledge, and consequently a maddening persistence in asking questions.

If the child is to remain in the room with a highly intelligent and sensitive adult, it must be told, and if necessary forced, to sit still and not speak, which is injurious to its health, unnatural, unjust, and therefore cruel and selfish beyond toleration.

Author: Shaw, George Bernard, 1856-1950
Title: Treatise on Parents and Children

Vintage Art is always popular… but what about vintage writing? Is it so different raising our kids now as it was then? Yes… technology has changed our lives and our world.

But… think about the way technology changed in times past? Telephones, radio and television we not available to children several generations ago… How did that change the way parents raised their children? And… Can we learn from those older experiences as well?

Now… some of you may be put off because this micro-niche topic is about Public Domain Sewing… or because it deals with the “crafty” niche.

But this niche - or any hobby niche - can never be overdone.

And… if you think about this as a tutorial for your own niche, (replace craft, pattern or cross stitch - with your own “hobby” term) you might find a few new windows of opportunity.

I’m just saying…. :o)

This is a selection from a Public Domain book about “Sewing for little girls”…

It is an easy matter to interest a little girl in sewing if one approaches the subject in the right way.

The average mother pays scant attention to her child’s play with dolls, not realizing that it is possible to turn the making of the doll’s outfit into the most practical of lessons.

While a garment for herself might at first only weary and dishearten the little seamstress, the miniature pieces have a peculiar appeal of their own that will cause her to execute the most perfect kind of work with delight.

The wise woman, therefore, will assist with suggestions about the suitability of the materials to be used, and aid in the laying on of the patterns, the cutting and the fitting, as well as instruct about the actual sewing.

Indeed, with the dolls clothes it is possible to make each article teach some special lesson under the guise of the most fascinating play, while having mother for a friend and helper will be another incentive to neatness.

Okay… Focus for a minute or two. What would be a really profitable idea to use all this great content that this book contains?

I know that sewing never goes out of style.

I have never (ever) walked into a craft store and not found a huge section devoted to the sewing hobby. It’s a hobby that has been around for centuries and will continue to be taught for generations to come.

But… if a section of that store is focused on kids “and” sewing then you know this is a hot seller!

What if you could provide unique patterns just for girls (or boys) to learn their first sewing skills? Sell them on eBay or your own website. Advertise in sewing magazines. Well… you get the picture.

Targeted Micro-Niche Markets just in the “Sewing” field would include:

Quilting

Tatting

Cross stitch

Knitting

Mending

Upholstery

And more…

Every one of these is a “hobby” that’s been around for centuries… which means a ton of information is ready for you to use any way you want!

When it comes to marketing on the Internet, you will need a steady stream of articles. You always want your articles to be well written and researched. The best articles will capture your reader’s attention and leave them wanting more.

For many marketers… this means sitting down at your computer and start to write all of these articles yourself. It takes time and hard work to write all of the articles that you need to be successful with your marketing campaigns.

There is no need to do all of this hard work; when you can use public domain content for your Internet marketing articles.

You’ll find that with a little creativity and imagination creating unique themed products and articles is a snap when you can gather all of the material that you need from the public domain.

The Big Idea!

Combine PLR with Public Domain for fast re-writes. Your new content will be one of a kind. The article below is a re-written PLR where I added a few of my own comments and slipped in some Public Domain content.

Relax More - Worry Less

This is one where we combine PLR with Public Domain content about relaxing and removing the stress from our lives.

Can you tell where?

l
l
********************

Partial PLR Article

*********************

Is there a place outside your realm? Someplace you can go with your thoughts and soak up everything around. Feel the fortitude seep into the soul. Realize this is the place where the most relaxed and angelic feelings appear.

Breathe and exercise life. Search for ways to enhance the physical form. Slow, deep activity that gets the heart pumping but also slows the minds process. Take a yoga class or sit silently with the eyes closed breathing letting all the impurities be released from the body. Be in touch with the subconscious persona. Deeply gulp the air as it seeps through cleansing the soul. Breathing is the easiest form of being one with you.

Spirituality of the soul can be a wonderful relief. Everyone needs to take time and smell the flowers. Watch the beauties of the world and enjoy the peaceful feeling they have acquired. A huge weight has been lifted and the small stress that is suffered becomes even smaller. Time is forever eternal. The soul lives forever, being tuned in to its needs and desires will make the world brighter.

***********

Then - I found this book “Imagination In Play”

Excerpt:

Who does not know the peaceful activity of a Sunday evening, the fruitful quiet of a long railway journey or sea-voyage at the end of a holiday? Two friends walk slowly home together after an exciting expedition or debate; two girls give each other their confidence while brushing their hair after a dance.

Too often the imagination, the really individual part of the mind, is starved and atrophied.

With the PLR article in one hand and the Public Domain Content in the other… mash them together and you get one great original article without having to think.

Do you have a place where you feel totally relaxed? Someplace where you go with your thoughts and just buy your environment - you feel the stress slip away? Who does not know the peaceful activity of a Sunday evening spent reading or playing with the kids?

You must search for ways to remember how it was during children’s play and laughter and develop the creative imagination which we call painting or poetry or music.

Too often the imagination, the really individual part of the mind, is starved and left to die away… and this part of the mind is where you could find you’re own place to relax.

Activities that get the heart pumping will also slow the fragmenting of our minds. Take a yoga class or sit silently with your eyes closed - breathing - letting all the impurities be released from the body. Be in touch with your subconscious.

Five minutes of deep breathing is the easiest form of relaxation.

Everyone needs to take time and smell the flowers. Watch the beauties of the world and enjoy the peaceful feeling they have acquired.

Take five minutes, if you can sail away on the ship of imagination, it will take you to fairyland and back again.

But the five minutes (or the day in the country, or the week of quiet, or whatever you can get) must really and truly be free; you must have the courage to seek true relaxation.

Fruit And Vegetable Crate Labels!

Vintage crate labels provide a wonderful bounty of rich and imaginative imagery and were designed specifically to appeal to one’s senses by conveying all the wonderful qualities of fresh produce - health, longevity, vitality and flavor!

Meant to catch the eye of passing shoppers in neighborhood markets and busy wholesale buyers in the produce auction markets, the artwork on these crate labels is nothing short of incredible.

There wasn’t a single subject left unexplored - you name it, you can probably find a crate label featuring it in dazzling fashion.

These wonderfully colorful and eye-catching labels were glued onto wooden produce crates and shipped all over the country for roughly 70 years.

Now, here’s the really cool thing for us as product creators, information publishers, and seekers of copyright-free images for our blogs and other products - the vast majority of these crate labels are in the public domain and are thus free for us to reproduce in any way we choose!

Fruit Art In Public Domain

Books that teach art… are timeless. If you want to learn the art of painting fruit it really is not any different today than it was 75 years ago.

You could learn to draw and paint pears:

Or you could learn about the beauty of cherries:

How about learning to paint plums?

A Living Vase.—This process of ornamenting vases is by no means new; but, as the thing is still far from being common, and as it may give some one a new idea by which to help beautify the home, we have deemed it worth while to give a representation of it so as to show the result, and to indicate the means employed to obtain it, which are most simple.

Though any kind of vases can be used indiscriminately, those inunglazed terracotta are preferable, being porous. In such vessels the water with which the vase is filled percolates constantly through the sides and moistens the plants which are fixed on its surface. This kind of vase is, however, not indispensable, for we can ornament all kinds, whether in glass or metal. In the latter case it is necessary to prepare the surface so as to convert it into a sort of soil, which it really represents—an operation which is easily managed by the aid of a piece of cloth or flannel which is fixed by means of a little packthread or thin iron or brass wire. This being understood, the means employed to grow the seed must next be described.

If a porous vase be used it is filled with water or, better still, left in a pail of water to soak. After a lapse of 24 hours, when the water has thoroughly saturated the vase, it is laid on its side, and the seed sprinkled slightly over the surface, taking care to turn the vase in different directions, in order that the whole surface may be well covered with seed. This operation terminated, the vase is placed in a dark closet for some time, and, if possible, under a glass frame, so as to preserve humidity and facilitate germination. When the plants are developed, and in case they get detached from the vase, they are secured by passing round, in different directions, a little packthread or fine wire, which soon disappears under the vegetation.

If a non-porous vase, after having well soaked the cloth which covers it, the seed is sown upon it and the same care is given it as has already been indicated. When a porous vase is used it should be kept constantly full, as it is the water filtering slowly through it that feeds the plants which cover the sides.
