Information websites are a fantastic way to earn affiliate and advertising income. The key of course is to find a niche market with high demand and little competition.

One potential niche may be in the field of making cosmetics. With any niche marketing… the key is - to have good traffic and therefore profits lies in content.
This is where public domain can be tremendously helpful. You can use public domain content as blog posts, articles, reports, audio files and more. You can use the images from public domain as graphics for your website and your marketing content.
Finding relevant public domain content is the next step. There are a number of helpful websites including:
- Archive.org
- http://www.authorama.com/
- http://librivox.org/, public domain audio books
You can also search the library of congress though you’ll have to do some research to determine if a text or image is in fact public domain.
A quick search at archive.org in their texts found these two notable candidates for cosmetics:
The Drugist’s Recipe Book - http://www.archive.org/details/druggistsgeneral00beas This book has recipes on how to make everything from Cow ointments to toothpaste to shaving cream and yes it talks about how to make cosmetics and perfumes.
The Toilette of health, beauty, and fashion - http://www.archive.org/details/toiletteofhealth00londrich
This fun book breaks it down by body part with chapters on teeth, eyes, hair, face paint and so on. It includes recipes for cosmetics and interesting content on beauty and fashion.
When it comes to content, public domain is a fantastic way to generate interesting and informative content to both provide value to your website visitors as well as to help optimize your website for the search engines.
You can simply reprint portions of the content or repackage it to best suit your audience. There’s plenty of money to be made in affiliate marketing, information marketing and public domain content offers a great return on investment!

Bug Book For Children Copyright Free
November 7, 2008 by Debra · Leave a Comment
Do you know a child who loves bugs? Betcha didn’t think those six legged creatures were crawling around the public domain. Guess what…they are and they offer myriad product opportunities.
Check this out. Go to archive.org and do one of two things. You can head to this book directly – Smithsonian Scientific Series - Insects Their Ways and Means of Living, or you can search texts with the keyword Insects and/or bugs.
The Smithsonian puts together a fantastic book. Inside you’ll find is an abundance of wonderful bug pictures and plates.
These amazing images can be used to create coloring books - online downloads or print.
They can be used to create fantastic wall art – imagine a giant grasshopper on the bedroom wall of a little boy. Or dragonflies and butterflies for little girls.
There are pictures of roaches and bed bugs but I cannot imagine a parent putting those guys on the wall – however if there’s an audience here’s the opportunity!

The book is divided into sections and each bug receives full attention. Readers will learn all they ever wanted to know about the notorious Cockroach or the Termite. The images can be used to create stencils, cross stitch patterns, stickers, and iron-ons.
Create a Book Series
The text, all 431 pages, can be segmented into smaller insect books for children. And we all know how much children like to collect things right? Create a series of books, one for each major species, using the content in the Smithsonian Series and you’ll be able to create and sell a whole series all about bugs.
Use These Public Domain Print Images For Other Product Ideas
You can use some of the inside images for book cover art and create a truly professional product. Children are captivated by bright colors and all things gross, creepy, and crawly. Girls of course tend toward ladybugs, butterflies, and dragon flies. Boys probably prefer spiders, ants, grasshoppers and the more wiggly bugs. This book has it covered – whatever gender you want your product to appeal to.
Remember, children like to collect so bug trading cards using the information inside the book for your content and the images for the card graphics may be a great way to sell more than one product.
You could create cards for each type of bug. There are hundreds of spider species for example and each species could be a specific card.
The only thing you have to do to create the products is sort through the information and decide what each card will highlight and then find a printer nearby to create the cards.
Quick product at a very low price – that’s the magic of public domain.

Why Do Digital Products Fail?
October 27, 2008 by Debra · 2 Comments
I was contacted today by an new online marketer and he is struggling with creating his own products but knows that lot’s of digital products fail…
Here is the email:
I am a culinary/hospitality management graduate but am unable to work in my desired profession. I have a couple of books and articles that are in the public domain and would like to edit and update them for publication and yes they are cookbooks and recipes. Any suggestions, comments and even “snide” remarks (lol) would be greatly appreciated. Micah
Hi Micah…
Perhaps the biggest reason people fail when using Public Domain content to create new products is the don’t know “who” their market is.
In this case… the underlying problem seems to me (just my opinion) that the “tightly targeted market” has not been chosen. Public Domain cookbooks and copyright free magazine articles could be used in a huge variety of markets. With the skills if a culinary/hospitality management graduate it would seem that this would be a perfect target market.
Some of the ideas might be:
- Cooking for hospitals
- Cooking for events
- Cooking for weddings
- Cooking for restaurants
And… the fact that you could weave in lot’s of tips related to the education your already have is a huge bonus.
Of course, I understand you want to “update” these Public Domain publications so they will be useful for someone in todays current job market. I know how some of these old publications have been written with some of the oddest verbiage.
Logan and I have spent several hundred hours putting together our tutorials that include ideas to help you do just that… “fix the content so it reads well for todays consumer”. The Public Domain Treasure Hunter is a kit that includes pages and pages of ideas that share what other internet marketers have used to publish hot selling products. These are products that don’t have anything to do with internet marketing… their is one that is selling a book for artists just as an example.
I think this kit would be perfect for you to use to “update” your Public Domain information… plus it will teach you where to easily find other copyright free information to add to your product mix. Using all this freely available content just saves your time! This is time you can spend learning how to “market” your new products.
One of the books included in this kit shows you how to research online for copyright free content at libraries. The cool thing about using material from the library is that it doesn’t cost you a thing to “borrow” the book and scan it at home. I’ve done this several times. I’ve researched online all the libraries and had content that looked interesting “sent” to my local library for me to “borrow”. It’s a huge time and money saver.
I hope I’ve helped you in some small way to get your new business off the ground. Good luck and let us know if we can help you in any other way…
Debra

Business Ideas Using Public Domain
October 11, 2008 by Debra · Leave a Comment
Several years ago I “wrote” a book. It’s my first and only published, physical book. And of course… I could then add “author” to my list of accomplishments. But… what most people don’t know - I didn’t really write this book.
Nope… I wrote the book using Copyright-Free information and transcribed interviews.
You see… this book is about a historical local event and the participants wanted to have this event documented. Because this event took place with the help of government aid… I was able to fill one half of the 300 page book with their documentation (which is very interesting).
The other half of the book is filled chapters written by each family and lot’s of their personal pictures. In reality… a pretty easy book to “write”.
In case your interested in seeing the book…
This is just one example of how I have used copyright-free material to build my business.
What if I told you that right under your very nose there are hundreds of thousands of copyright-free books, music, film, images, and all sorts of other intellectual properties that are FREE for the taking and you can do anything you want with - including legally repackaging and SELLING FOR MONEY AS YOUR OWN PRODUCTS?
It’s True!
What if i told you that experts in their respective fields - have written some amazing books and articles that your are free to use? You can and should use their work to crank out information products that you can sell without ever having to go through the pain of writing a word yourself?
What if you could quickly, easily, and legally use this copyright-free material to:
- Easily create your own high-priced , hot selling info products like ebooks, printed manuals, audio programs, CD’s, DVD’s and more…
- Quickly build huge cash pumping Adsense or affiliate marketing content websites and blogs…
- Effortlessly create articles and special reports without having to write a word yourself and use them to drive massive traffic to your website or build a huge mailing list…
- Magically create all sorts of hot physical products like t-shirts, posters, framed prints and more using copyright-free artwork and images…
The crazy thing is that most people have never even heard of this vast treasure or if they have heard of it, they really don’t understand the enormous potential that lies within.
Insiders have been using these incredibly valuable copyright-free works to create all sorts of products and have been making thousands of dollars, if not hundreds of thousands of dollars, with them year after year.
Yeah, that’s right - we’re talking about Business Ideas Using Public Domain…
If you know how to identify, repackage and market these copyright-free works, you have a GOLDMINE on your hands. There are literally millions of works in the Public Domain right now just waiting for you. Talk about a massive treasure chest of copyright-free material!
It’s like having a huge group of ghost writers available to you anytime and for a fraction of the cost. And… don’t all of us that are in the business to make money - want to learn how to save money?
